TEAM PYP September 2012 – June 2013 (with the month of December off):
We’ll follow the same format as we’re currently using. You can see what that looks like on our TEAM PYP 2011-2012 Groups page, with the exception of 3 quarters instead of 4. Sept-Nov, Jan-March, Apr-June. (Yes, we'll still call them "quarters" even though three of those cumulative months will be unassigned.)
Also, instead of 7 mentored groups, we’ll have only 3, with a possible 4th for teen applicants. I’ll select from all applicants and assign those chosen a mentor.
Be aware that we will accept serious applicants only - those who will commit to starting and finishing the entire program, turn in pieces on time, follow the guidelines to a "T." If you have commitments that might interfere with regular work on your stories, please do not apply (see below for our newly instituted requirement to prevent dropouts and late submissions).
Those who have gone through the first year successfully are FREE TO APPLY FOR A SECOND TERM.
Email me with questions, or your name and writing bio if you wish to apply for next year’s teams. teampyp@portyonderpress.com.
List of this year’s fine mentors.
Addition to the 2012-2013 teams: Due to the problem of having several people sign up only to subsequently renege on their commitment a few weeks or months later, we’ll also have each applicant sign a legally-binding contract specifying that they will complete the entire year at no cost except should they decide to drop out, or if they neglect to submit at least the minimum work on time each month and are asked to relinquish their spot as a result (2 lates = expulsion). To be considered for the program, they must agree to pay PYP $100 via Paypal or a certified check or money order within 30 days of dropping out or being asked to leave. This fee will demonstrate our seriousness in this matter - the trouble of finding a replacement, getting everyone on board with the new team member, getting the new team member up to speed, etc.
So, please, don’t sign up if you can’t produce at least three 100 (one hundred) word stories for the entire year, and get it to your mentor three times each quarter on the last day of each month. That isn’t a lot to ask. Keep up your end of the bargain. The quarterly word counts are maximums. No minimums (or 100 words, if you must have a number). Everyone should be able to come with a 100 word piece of flash fiction even if literally everything in the world crumbles around them that quarter, you know? If nothing else, tell us what it feels like to have pieces of blue fragrant sky crash down upon your head …
